Welcome to the new Norris Green!
Regeneration Liverpool is investing £100 million in Norris Green and is working hard to create a sustainable neighbourhood for local people to enjoy and to attract newcomers to the area. Norris Green, which is just five miles outside Liverpool City Centre, and at 63 acres in size is one of the largest residential sites in the city.
The Partnership is planning to build around 800 new family homes and is working with development partner, Countryside Sigma to deliver its vision – to accommodate and maintain a vibrant community, building on the strong spirit that already exists in the area. We are delivering a wide range of open market sale and affordable rent homes, working with local housing associations Cobalt Housing and Liverpool Mutual Homes. Approximately 170 new homes have already been completed, with construction of a further 200 homes ongoing as part of the next 3 phases of development.
Given the strain on mortgage lending supply, the Partnership is working with Cobalt in order to offer further tenure possibilities for homes in the near future. Building a successful new community is not just about new homes however. As the neighbourhood continues to grow, so too does the requirement for improved community facilities and for great schools.
As part of the current activity Regeneration Liverpool is building 24 one and two-bedroom homes for Cobalt on land adjacent to the local school, Monksdown Primary. These homes are due to be completed in Spring 2014. Set apart from the land developed so far, the school has been in isolation for too long yet despite this, has achieved ‘Outstanding’ in the most recent interim assessment made by OFSTED in April 2011.
Regeneration Liverpool is working with the school to improve the outside space around it and boost its already excellent credentials. A planning application has been submitted for environmental improvement works which will reconfigure and improve the boundary treatment and outdoor space around the school. The proposals allow for extra playground and green space, including wildlife gardens, a fruit and vegetable allotment and a sports area. It is anticipated that these works will commence at Monksdown early in 2014.
As part of the Partnership’s overall philosophy and as the next stage of housing comes to fruition at Norris Green, work is underway by the Partnership to improve the linkages to the local Ellergreen Centre.
More details will follow shortly about Regeneration Liverpool’s exciting plans for Norris Green, so watch this space!
